I have the opportunity to hunt in a field I have not tried before. The field is 2 miles from a marsh where thousands of birds overnight. It is directly under the flyway to and from. 30 miles east of Winnipeg. (The corn all around is still standing for a while yet). The field is seeded with winter wheat, sprouting green under canola stubble. The birds don't like to land in canola stubble, it is rough and about a foot high. The next field over is half-mown alfalfa hay, rough plowed.

So, my question is: If I put out my decoy spread in the winter wheat / canola, will the birds even look at it? The field is green with sprouts, but covered in rough stubble. Or will they come in over rough surface cut alfalfa in a field with some alfalfa still standing?

Thank you,
