As the Republican party chairman in Fluvanna County, Florida, Doug Johnson considers it part of his job to monitor political advertising on local television.
But the battle of the airwaves has become so lop-sided he can hardly bear to watch. "You can't turn on the TV without seeing Obama," he says.
Inthe past three weeks, Barack Obama has run in excess of 19,000 advertising spots in Florida - more than three times the number placed by John McCain.
The Democratic candidate enjoys similar dominance in almost every battleground state five days before the election.
Mr Obama spent $80m (£51m, €64m) on advertising in the first two weeks of October - more than double the combined efforts of Mr McCain and the Republican National Committee, according to the latest campaign finance disclosures.
He stepped up his spending blitz on Wednesday night with a half-hour, documentary-style advertisement on three of the four main US television networks, scheduled for a primetime slot immediately before the continuation of this year's baseball World Series.
The $3m buy - the first of its kind since Ross Perot bought a series of 30-minute slots to promote his independent bid for the White House in 1992 - highlighted Mr Obama's wide financial advantage over Mr McCain after months of record fundraising.
He is on course to top $230m in advertising expenditure before Tuesday's election, nearly double the amount projected for Mr McCain and beating the $188m record set by George W. Bush in 2004
