Any taxidermy experts or with some knowledge on here? I shot a beautiful drake widgeon yesterday that I would love to have mounted. Problem is, one wing was broken on the shot. The feathers were not messed up too bad. I was wondering if a taxidermist can work around a broken wing somehow or not?? Will be my first bird to have mounted if possible.

Had a once in a lifetime (first and only canvasback ever shot) fully plumaged drake canvasback that I shot up in ND back in 2001 and the taxidermist left it in a freezer too long and ruined it :******: :******: :******:, so if they can work around a broken wing, this will be my first.

Gaddy, a good taxidermist can work around a lot more than that, the good ones know a ton of tricks for fixing this and that. Sometimes you might have to work with them a little and have the bird mounted in a way to help the cover up. You might want to know where you want the bird in the house and how you want it mounted before you take it in, and then just tell the taxidermist what you want and go from there. They always have good ideas how to mount a bad side or something and you want to keep an open mind about it. If they are good they are also honest about whether or not they can repair the damage and make it look good. I hope you find one with a good reputation. Ask around, go to the places and check out the work, some are better at just fish, some at deer, but some can really specialize in birds.

Congrats on the bird.

You'll be fine, the taxidermist will probably be happy it's just a broken wing, a little wire and some twine will fix it up nice. Just like Goldy said depending upon where or how badly it's broken you may have to be a little flexible with the pose.

Good luck and congrats on the nice bird.

shop taxidermy mounts
I have been doing taxidermy for 8 years i do almost any type of mount you you could want and can work with you and mount to your specifications i have a great turn around time usually less than 4 months with professional results. I have finished mount this year faster than I expected and am now wishing that i had not turn down so many because at this rate i will be finished in two months. This was my biggest year ever and i will have some extra time so if you would like to have any thing mounted just let me know. i can email pictures of my work if needed if i can help you out just let me know thanks
