Operation Hayride

The North Dakota Wildlife Federation is leading a statewide effort to help 4,700 cattle producers though this difficult time of drought. Approximately 425,000 head of cattle are affected in 17 counties. We have chosen the name "Operation Hayride" for this endeavor.

When the US Department of Agriculture opened 3.3 million acres of CRP land to haying, cattle producers scrambled to find CRP that they could harvest. In a race against time, cattlemen were quick to locate newly accessible CRP acres and made arrangements to haul machinery to that site to cut and bale hay.

The biggest problem for many producers is hauling hay to their ranching headquarters. The NDWF feels the best way to help this effort is to coordinate hay hauling operations. The NDWF is seeking help from all sportsmen, anglers, trappers, and 271 outdoor organizations throughout the state to solicit hay-hauling equipment. It's a huge effort to help our neighbors and friends.

Monetary contributions can be sent to the NDWF; 1605 E Capitol Ave; Bismarck, ND 58501; Attn: "Operation Hayride". For more information, please view the press release and guidelines below, or call the NDWF at 1-888-827-2557 or 1-701-222-2557.
