I plan on coming out to ND October 22-27 and am looking for a place to hunt puddle ducks. I am not really interested in hiring a guide, not because of cost but I have had many bad experiences with guides (from poaching deer while duck hunting to not showing up...I even had a guide from Michigan that had never even been to ND before...and oh yeah, they all had references).

Anyway, I would ideally like to find a place I can hunt with my 12 year old son and my dog. Last year I just wandered around the Ellendale area (after my guide didn't show up) and managed to find some ducks, but I spent an entire day scouting for them. Is there anyone around willing to lease land for those days if I stay in a hotel? Any other suggestions?

Welcome to the site.

You won't need to lease any land. Knock on some doors and the good people of ND will normally let you on.

As far as where to go, you might want to browse the forum as it's brought up almost weekly, or you can try one of these 6 links ( I pulled them on the fly, same question):
