Duck harvest
For what it matters to the ND crew.?

Minnesota hunters harvested 944,000 ducks last season, according to preliminary numbers released by the Fish and Wildlife Service. That is the second-highest harvest in the Mississippi Flyway and a 10 percent increase over 2001.

The number of hunter days afield increased slightly, as did the duck harvest per hunter = 10.8

Officials said the numbers should be viewed cautiously this year, because they are based only on responses from hunters who registered with the Harvest Information Program. Other years also included responses from those who bought federal duck stamps.

wonder how many shot those out of State ??? plus how many fudge on their replys ??? & count the birds their friends or groups as a whole shoot ???

Plus Minn. had a great year cause the ducks never really went south - with the nice weather- after they got so far south they went more east & west -

SD must of had a Bonanza year as well as Nebraska - Kansas- Missouri - Iowa - Illinois - compared to usual ???

Things have changed so fast for so many reasons - I do not believe the effects can be studied fast enough to really do the right things for the resources. :eyeroll: & $$$ & commercialized shooting has a bigger influence in all things ducks, than most will admidt :eyeroll:

I think the last paragraph in PH's post is probably key. Different sampling methods can produce wildly different results. During the session, some were concerned about the sampling included within HPC, and wanted to count heads more accurately through duck stamp sales or something else. Any method can be used for a model, but you have to pick one and stick with it, otherwise results aren't comparable. Who knows, maybe last year was a doosie for MN duck hunters, but I didn't really hear much of that. Could be that the sampling method change was the greatest factor.
