I have recently joined this forum and have found it very informative since most of my interests are hunting. primarilly anything that flies that is legal to hunt!ducks, geese, snipe, rail, woodcock,no coots, pheasant, huns, grouse, quail, dove, crow, etc.and I do my share of other game too. The question I have though is WHAT DEMAGRAPHIC DOES THE FORUM TARGET? I notice some are primarily targeted on the going ons in ND. I havent had an op to hunt in ND and would like to some day but I sometimes feel hesitant because being a NR I would hate to have someone look down on me because they dont want me there! I am a very ethical hunter. respecting private property, asking permission.CLEANING UP AFTER MY HUNT-SHELL CASINGS,ETC. OBEYING HUNTING REGS,ETC. I currently hunt IA, MN, SD, and AZ and have been welcomed well. so far I havent met anybody that was an [email protected]#$%&. but have respected those that did not want to grant permission.Anyway the other categories have been a blast to check out and I will continue to be a part of them, so if anyone can comment I would apreciate that and any other ?s I have I' be sure to ask! Thanks FACE

Face - you have fell victim to the negative SPIN that is being put out by the Commercial hunting sides, that want ND to just be a unlimited free for all. Just with the false thought, that it will hurt their business. Most if not all places that cater to real hunters (Freelance) are very busy during most of the season anyway.

These commercial hunting people are the same ones leasing all the better areas - causing the overcrowding in the areas left for the other 95% of freelance hunters that - will not pay to hunt.

They have been duped by the guides & outfitters into believing that - Pay to Hunt Non-Residents are their Bread & Butter - which is false - I'd guess well over 95% of NR's are just like residents & want to come to ND & Freelance hunt - Ask permission & respect the landowners wishes. (Most Landowners really just post their lands for Deer hunting) or just want to know who is on their land & not let it become overcrowed.

All these negatives (you have heard ) are to scare NR's or make them mad - that more restrictions may becoming. So that they will protest & blindly support their legislative goals. (Because they are such a minority & really only have their self interests & their profits in mind). They want Pay to shoot NR's to be able to just show up anytime & be able to get a license.

It is sad that most writers & Forums & NR's have fell for this. Most that understand our points want to see ND stay like it has been - or even improved to make Freelance hunting even better.

You need to spend sometime & read back on past threads & see all the ideas & reasons so many of us are passionate about ND not becoming like most other states.

You will see that if small towns & the hospitality industries would do things to support & improve Freelance hunting - they could expand & grow a real economic Bonanza. But the Guides & outfitters (Corp. Pay to hunt) people have twisted all this around.

It is a new thing for Residents to learn how to fight back & tell the truth & educate these poor misinformed folks - landowners - politicians- business owners in small & Big towns that ALL Hunters support. It is happening & now they opposition is desperate & making a last stand, to buy themselves another 2 years until our Legislature meets again. - Even our Govenor was confused & bought into the messages this group was putting out - we can only hope he is now getting the facts & seeing the light ??? Or else his political future may be dark.

Face,

Just another voice saying welcome. We all know and hunt with NR's and by no means do we want to shut NR's out. But NR hunters, like all visitors, we gotta watch the numbers or very shortly all the toilets are plugged and things are screwed for everyone. No one dislikes NR's.

The only unpopular NR's are the occasional Trolls that visit the site - they aren't looking to discuss, learn, seek/share opinions - only to start an argument. Their sole motivation is to tell resident hunters what's what. (There are several resident trolls too.) They are obvious, and aren't worth feeding (DFTT = don't feed the trolls).

Moreover, you'll find the folks here are terribly generous and know an awful lot about stuff. They'll point you the right direction when you do come to ND - so you don't have to use an outfitting service. The folks here aren't necessarily against guides and outfitters, but most dislike the predatory/exclusionary practices they use (huge leases etc) so we hate to see any business steered their way.

Welcome to the site.

M.
