NEW YORK -- Bill Clinton said Monday he understands why Sarah Palin is popular in the heartland.

"I come from Arkansas, I get why she's hot out there," Clinton said. "Why she's doing well."

Speaking to reporters before his Clinton Global Initiative meeting, the former president described Palin's appeal by adding, "People look at her, and they say, 'All those kids. Something that happens in everybody's family. I'm glad she loves her daughter and she's not ashamed of her. Glad that girl's going around with her boyfriend. Glad they're going to get married."'

Clinton said voters would think, "I like that little Down syndrome kid. One of them lives down the street. They're wonderful children. They're wonderful people. And I like the idea that this guy does those long-distance races. Stayed in the race for 500 miles with a broken arm. My kind of guy."

Palin, the governor of Alaska, became an overnight star when Republican presidential candidate John McCain tapped her for his running mate. Her family, including her Down syndrome baby, Trig, her pregnant 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, and her husband, Todd, four-time winner of the 2,000-mile Iron Dog snowmobile race, have garnered intense media interest.

"I get this," Clinton said. "My view is ... why say, ever, anything bad about a person? Why don't we like them and celebrate them and be happy for her elevation to the ticket? And just say that she was a good choice for him and we disagree with them?"

The global initiative, a project of Clinton's foundation, will hold its four-day annual meeting in Manhattan starting Tuesday.

After that, Clinton said he will be busy campaigning for the Democratic ticket of Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden

I never said I didn't understand her appeal.

I can see why she would appeal to many.

That doesn't mean she is qualified however.

Question for ya R Y A N, I was really wishing he would have picked Tim Pawlenty, would you be saying the same about him?
Great question. The answer is No.

I'd be fully supporting McCain if he chose Pawlenty, or even someone like Kay Bailey Hutchison from Texas.

At least those folks had experience needed for the office. It is blatantly obvious what McCain's tactic was. It was foolish and reckless, and shows how he would make decisions if elected to office.

The reason it is such a critical decision, and I believe ultimately will cost him the election, is that a substantial portion of the population believes he won't make it thru a full term. Thus the VP will become Pres, and Palin scares the living daylights out of me (and MANY others) as a President given her belief system.

Thanks for asking.... I mean that.

R Y A N, Tell me what is the difference? Palin was a mayor then became Gov., Pawlenty was a MN rep. then became Gov. Both have the same experience neither one has foreign affairs experience. One however is a man the other a woman, could you be a little sexist R Y A N? So what has Obama accomplished that makes him qualified?

Yeah and tell us how much of a better president Obama will make rather than Palin. Oh that's right Palin isn't running for president. But the liberals feel the need to compare the two to cloud the comparison of Obama and McCain. "Oh, Obama is much better that McCain because Palin has no experience." Well she has more that Obama so get off it. The race is between McCain and Obama. Right know, with the world in such disarray, we don't need someone who has ZERO experience in foreign affairs.

I don't know she appears to have very high standards. But then any form of morals scares some people. For example abortion for some is traumatic, for others it's like removing a hemorrhoid. After all a child around the house would be a pain in the rear right? I would guess those who have had an abortion really hate her. After all people these days can't live with someone telling them they did something wrong. After all momma told them they could do no wrong, and they were dumb enough to believe it.

When Barack Obama, ran for the Illinois state senate in 1996 he sought the endorsement of the New Party and used New Party members as campaign volunteers. In case you don't know - and you probably don't - the New Party was a Marxist organization made up largely of former members of the Democratic Socialists of America and ACORN.

Vote for him anyway. After all, he's for change and he's black. What more could you ask?
The phrase "community organizer" is a code word for "black." Ditto for "skinny." Therefore, the use of those terms is racist.

If Obama is elected president you will be shocked at how many thoughts you express about his policies will be deemed racist.

If skinny is black I'm whiter than snow
