My son and I will be making our 3rd annual ND waterfowl hunting trip this year. (Oct 18th) We hunt west of grand forks (some distance) and usually hunt in small ponds or flooded fields. We don't have a lot of time for scouting but would like to try hunting in the fields this year. If I find a field holding mallards in the evening would this be a good morning spot also?
Don't have much field hunting experience.
Thanks for any advice.

I too do my scouting in the evening for a morning shoot. The only thing you might want to know is that sometimes the ducks don't hit the fields in the morning. Our best field shoot to this day started at 3 PM and we got our limit by 4. Never saw a bird until then. So I guess stick with it if they were there the day before.

THanks for the tips.
I just want to make the most of my 5 days. Wish I could get there and scout before season but that didn't happen this year. Any report of water/field conditions in the NE quarter of the State? Or opinion on duck numbers?

if you see a slough it very well could be a mirage
Very true. And if you see a ton of ducks on it you just may be hallucinating :( . Very dry with poor duck production this year.

I generally scout the morning for morning field shoots and evening for evening shoots. Been burned to many times scouting in the evening and setting up in the morning. Good luck this fall.
