Zebra Mussels and duck hunting

Postby GraysonEverett » Wed Feb 17, 2021 5:45 am

One of my hunting lakes unfortunately has zebra mussels in it. I only use this one boat in that lake, so no big deal. My question is, what should I do about my decoys and waders when I go to other lakes to not transport them over on another hunt?

I never thought about that until today and was curious what others do. I could easily have a different set of decoys but another pair of waders sure gets expensive.

Am I overthinking this?

I dont do much duck hunting, but I did work in wetland research. I often was in 10 to 20 wetlands in a single day. Biotransfer was always a concern. Not so much because of invasives, we simply didnt want to be an outside human infuence. I had a pan with a lid in my truck. Because most invertebrate eggs could be transfered in the mud on the bottom of my waders I woud sit in a folding chair with my boots on and feet in the pan filled with 5% clorox. Then I used a stiff bristle brush. The waders above the sole and any equipment (decoys) can be sprayed with 5% clorox carried in a small cheap spray bottle.

I was going to suggest clorox also
