When you post an ad (suggestions)

Postby TurkeyTalker » Mon May 02, 2005 1:47 pm

Gentlemen...

I wanted to make a few polite suggestions for when you list an item, so that it may save you and everyone, alot of wasted time and effort and email.

1) List where you are from, and if the item isnt located there, where its located

2) List the items condition, wear, tear, damage, and/or any problems it may have.

3) List a price...THE most important factor, when listing, in getting a response.

4) Phone numbers...this will speed up sales immensely

5) If you are willing to do some horse trading, list the items you are interested in.

6) Last, and not least, photos will sell something 10 times faster when combined with an ad.

I am ONLY trying to help everyone here, not trying to be rude or impolite. Myself, I wont respond anymore to ads that dont list a price or phone number...they just seem...well, fishy, to be honest.

Lastly, wouldnt it make sense for guests to fill out a profile to save interested parties from having to ask anything about where you are? Just all food for thought.

Why would i offer these suggestions you ask? Because I ran several websites that were primarily classified ad oriented and have found that when you follow these suggestions, you sell more, you waste less time and most of all, you dont waste the buyers time.

If you are only kicking tires and trying to find out what something is worth, I might suggest you look up its value on Yahoo, Google or similar. Otherwise, list a price...just makes sense, doesnt it?

Yes, good suggestions. Don't know how many emails I have sent for various items asking how much and any pictures?

If I could add more. Please answer PM'S and E-Mails. Don't put something up for sale and leave people hanging if it is still available.

when people do post the price

Postby goose_slayer28 » Tue May 10, 2005 2:59 pm

You shouldnt have to ask them there lowwest price as they have just stated what they are willing to take for it.. If you want to make them an offer thats one thing but it seems to me that there are to many tire kickers out there just tring to find peoples lowwest price.. If your interest shoot someone a price.. and work from there dont ask ahh dahhh whats youre rock bottom price there guy ... :sniper:

Personally, I have a problem with posting an UNPUBLISHED phone number.

I guess if someone wants to talk, they can send a PM and I can give them the number and the best time to get a hold of me at the same time.

I agree with most of what you have said. I also include pictures with everything I sell. Sometimes it just doesn't matter.

Case in point.
I got a boat on here for sale now. Some guy sends me an emails wants to know where it's located and a phone number to get a hold of me. He never calls or shows up.
Another gives a statement he'll buy the boat for $300 when I am asking $2000 OBO....

Sold a truck as a direct result of this board. Did just as I did for the boat.
Gave the asking price with photos. It sold within a week.

Some of us leave enough stuff out to elicit a response only from those really interested.

Read the dates of the topics you are responding to.

Some of them (like this one) might be a dead thread. People may or may not respond if it's something that was hashed over in a previous life time.

I agree with most of what you said but it will be a cold day in hell before I post my phone number in a public forum.

Also check current market/sale prices with some of the major distributors. Your used item that cost $150 new and is being sold for $125 may seem like a good price unless a distributor has it on sale for $120..................... I buy most of my stuff on sale so if I don't see a price that is below that for used I'm not buying. And that goes for many other guys too.............

Quick question...

I am new to forums, and wanted to post a classified for some honker decoys located in Buchanan, ND. I have my post saved as a draft, but cannot seem to figure out how to incorporate pictures correctly. Can someone please provide a little insight on this for me? Thanks for any suggestions.

Location, price and photo are the three things I look for, if they are missing I move on.

There are programs out there that are free that let you size your photos, generally 800x600 is going to be accepted by any forum. I use Irfanview, free and easy to use. Download it here: http://www.irfanview.com/

Once you resize the pic, upload it to a host site like photobucket, there are several out there, once your pic is uploaded you will have several option to share it. I normally just use the Direct option, copy the link and paste it like this: [img]paste.your.link.here[/img] you can get the [img] tags using the tab "Img" that is above the box you are typing your message in, or you can create them using the keyboard just make sure that there are no spaces between the img tags and the link.

So, it should look like this with no spaces, [img]
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/ ... c925b6.jpg [/img]

and your photo will show up like this:

Image

Once you do it a couple of times it takes less time to do than it took me to type this, it really is that easy.

You can also use the "upload attachment" option below the message box to up load a photo directly from your computer. I find the img tags easier for me, and it works the same on just about any forum out there, but it is all about what you are used to.

I just have the opinion that if you can't take a few minutes to post a pic of the item you are trying to sell me, you really don't want to sell it that bad.

You should not have to ask them there most negligible expense as they have as of late communicated what they are glad to take for it.. In case you have to make them an offer that is a sure something anyway I can't resist speculating that there are to many tire kickers out there just tring to find society most negligible expense.
