hey guys. I am from NY, and well, we are not a prairie dog state. I want to plan a trip with my buddy to go out hunting somewhere for them. But i wanted to ask you guys where you think is a good place to go. Wondering what recommendations you guys have. Never gone before and i want to try it out.

Please feel free to give any suggestions. Any and all will help.

thanks again

Stephan,

Since you are from a long way away. I would advise as follows. First I would try to get set up with a local. A lot of the locals like when people go shoot on their land, as long as people haven't abused the privilege. Otherwise, considering where you are coming from I would advise getting a guide. As for what state to hunt? I can't really help you with that I have personally hunted primarily in North Dakota, but I have also went to South Dakota. My reasons have been because I am from Minnesota so they are more close.

So considering your location I would maybe look at how you are getting to where you are going? Flying then it probably doesn't matter where you go, just make sure to rent something with 4wd. I would hate to have put in all that effort then not get to a good town because you only have a 2wd vehicle.
If you are driving I think if you could avoid driving threw extra states would be helpful, but i would not want to avoid states at the cost of having bad hunting.

Next I think the most important part is timing. It is not fun to go out too early in the season nor too late. Typically I think when the pups just come out it is the best time.

Good luck with your hunt,

Shane
