2003 Catfish Tournament Report

Drayton's 3rd annual catfishing event made a big SPLASH this year when the tournament filled out in advance for the first time! Word-of-mouth about this well-run tournament will help Rod & Reel Rally continue to grow each year.

118 anglers headed out in 50 boats on tournament morning, each one eager to land that whopper catfish that would grab the $1500 top prize or, better yet, the $30,000 bonus prize for a new state record. Entrants and spectators were treated to a beautiful, warm sunny day with a light, cooling breeze—perfect for spending some time on the waters of the beautiful Red River, or for taking in the excitement from the shady weigh-in area onshore.

Because of the extra-large turnout, prize money was available to pay down to 9th place this year. A total of 21 fish were weighed in—double the number brought to shore previous years.

Here are the Tournament results:

01 18 lb 10 oz Cory Dembiczak Halma, MN $1500

02 16 lb 6 oz Jerry Sersland Grand Forks, ND $ 750

03 15 lb 10 oz Cory Dembiczak Halma, MN $ 375

04 15 lb 8 oz Steve Cocoran East Grand Forks, MN $ 300

05 15 lb 4 oz David West Warren, MN $ 250

06 14 lb 4 oz Mike Andrews Grafton, ND $ 150

07 14 lb 2 oz Brandon Patterson Drayton, ND $ 110

08 13 lb 12 oz Jeff Parker Omaha, NE $ 102.50

09 13 lb 10 oz Brandon Patterson Drayton, ND $ 100

Catfishing Tournament

The bonus prize for a new ND catfish record went unclaimed. That record was set in Drayton in 1991 and we’re itchin’ to break it, so look for the exciting $30,000 prize to return for Rod & Reel Rally 2004!

Organizers would like to thank tournament sponsors International Broadcast Center and Drayton Community Chamber of Commerce.
