Gills for me are hard to find here on Lake St Clair MI, but I have seen them caught by people ice fishing. I saw a guy fishing a canal at night with lights along it look like he was close to his limit and he was catching them left and right on red spikes and a small tear drop jig.

Personally I feel it's because the fish moved. Since they move around in schools and end up under your hole, that causes the "spurt". The more you drill and move, the better the chance you have to stay on top of fish.

When I go ice fishing for gills,They normally bite in spurts. Then all of a sudden They shut down completly.Does this mean they stopped biting at this spot and I should try some other spot? Or is it that old saying ,It"s that time of the day and it"s time to go home?

Can you give me some hind sight?
